BEN BOURGEOIS WINS RIP CURL BOARDMASTERS, LANDS ON WCT!
With a win in early August at the Rip Curl Boardmasters in England, Spy Optic's Ben Bourgeois from Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina has secured his spot on the World Championship Tour.
For Bourgeois, the win launched him to second place on the WQS Ratings, just 24 points behind WQS Tour leader Tiago Pires (PRT). There are eight remaining WQS contests, but at 11,688 points Ben is guaranteed to qualify for the World Championship Tour.
Ben Bourgeois isnt a first-time WCT surfer. Back in 2005, after qualifying for the tour, he acquired an injury and failed to re-qualify. Since then Ben has been pursuing his previous position by surfing the World Qualifying Series (WQS). Ben has had some close years, narrowly missing WCT qualification by only one or two spots, but patience and perseverance have paid off. With half the year done and gone on the WQS, Ben has already qualified back onto the WCT.
Ben was elated when he found out of the news about qualifying "I wasn't really sure where the cut off would be, but I knew I was getting close. It's been a long road to get back on the WCT. I enjoyed the challenge, and have had many good times during this process. I am very excited and am looking forward to the new challenges ahead."
Congratulations Ben!
