Dragon's Shane Dorian Takes Out Ride of The Year at XXL Big Wave Awards
Carlsbad, CA- Dragon legend and big wave charger Shane Dorian has won Ride of the Year at this years XXL Awards held at Anaheim's Grove Theatre.
Shane Dorian, 35, of Kona Hawaii, blew minds and ran away with top honors by winning the $50,000 Ride Of The Year Award for a wave conquered at Teahupoo, Tahiti during the swell of the year on November 1st 2007. After being towed into what shaped up as one of the rides of the session, Dorian dropped to the base of the heaving slab and caught a slight rail, putting him in a near impossible position.
After correcting his mistake in the tube, the natural footer went into a full layback, coming from behind the foam ball to be cartwheeled into the safety of the channel.
"Usually at Teahupoo, you pick your line, set your rail and you normally make it, but that wave was really unique," said Dorian. "I nearly fell at the start, I nearly fell in the middle and then it clipped me at the end. "It was difficult because I was almost eating it the whole time."
"To think that I got the Ride of the Year is a huge honor for me, I'm really psyched that the surfing fraternity throw a big deal for it and support all the guys who go out and ride these waves," he said. "But really, at the end of the day the ride itself is the biggest reward and it's one that I will remember forever.

Dragon's Optics Owen Wright Wins Boost Mobile Surf Sho!
Carlsbad, CA- Dragon's very own grommet prodigy Owen Wright yesterday claimed the title of Surfing's ultimate hight flyer, taking out the second Boost Mobile Surf Sho in Surfer's Paradise on Queensland's Gold Coast.
Owen who only received his spot after winning the Wildcard on Friday strapped on the jetpack and took to the skies taking down one the greatest-ever line-up of aerialists. The Australian Junior champion stamped his mark, soaring past surfing's top names including reigning world champion fellow team rider Mick Fanning, world no.2 Bede Durbidge and defending event champion Taj Burrow.
18-year-old Wright out punted his fellow finalists, with a near-perfect 9.93 aerial move in the dying minutes of the 25-minute final to fly away with the winner-takes-all $25,000 prize cheque for the biggest pay day of his career.
"It's hard to explain how good I feel," said Wright.
"I did a couple of good airs in the opening stages of the final, but couldn't stick any. With a couple of minutes remaining the perfect ramp popped up and I sealed the deal. "When I landed it I hoped no one landed anything bigger cause all the guys were capable of pulling a big move off. It feels great to win it."
Wright emerged victorious from the water before being carried up the beach in front of thousands of cheering spectators to the winner's podium where he donned the perpetual surf sho champion's jacket.
From all at Dragon, major props and congratulations to Owie. Sick effort my man.

THE HISTORY
Dragons have traditionally throughout time been symbols of chaos, strength, prosperity and individuality. The Dragon symbolizes youth defining their own path and the complexities of their journey for independence. Our mission is to design and develop a unique brand and products that help today’s youth define their own path.
Dragon began in Southern California in 1993 with the belief that it can be done better while staying true to the core customer. With that plan and direction in mind, the Dragon was formed. Drawing influences from the dark mysto side of its team riders, art, music and street culture, Dragon products are designed to compliment our customer’s lifestyles. Dragon is committed to staying true to our core roots and developing products that reflect that. Dragon is currently distributed all over the globe and can be found at the finest retailers worldwide. For more information on Dragon, Dragon products and updated news and events go to dragonalliance.com.
THE BRAND
Because we market through the core lifestyles of action sports, art, music and street culture, Dragon is one of the few brands that have a massive cross over consumer appeal. This gives Dragon the advantage by not being confined to only one category and allows us to target the independent customer who is fringe and authentic. Because of this deeply rooted relationship with our customer, Dragon has a solid core following worldwide.
Dragon’s customers are unique and lifestyle driven, and they demand a unique brand and products that compliment that. Dragon’s sole mission is to develop products that create a lifestyle partnership with our customers through Sunglasses, Snowboard and MX Goggles and apparel and accessories.
Technical Points
• Base Curve: the overall curvature of the lens, dragon uses 6 base or 8,75 base curved lens.
• Light transmission: amount of light that passes through the lens.
• Polycarbonate: highest grade of non-glass lens available, glass is heavy and can shatter.
• UV light: Ultraviolet harmful light.
• True Optics: A lens and frame orientation that does not create distortion.
• Polarized: Three pieced lens system designed to prevent glare transmission.
Lenses
Dragon's polycarbonate lenses are not only optically true, they block just about anything you can throw at them, including 100% of all harmful UV and Blue Light. All Dragon products are available in polycarbonate lenses only. This provides light-weight comfort and safety for the wearer from impact or Shattering. Our lenses are available in a variety of lens tints and values, giving the wearer the ability to choose the light transmission that best suits them without compromising color rendition or composition.
Frames
All Dragon frames are made from the highest-grade materials known to man. From Nylon to Acetate, and from hardened steel to polyurethane, our frame materials unite in perfect balance to provide ultimate strength and flexibility.
Polarized
Light waves from the sun vibrate and radiate outward in all directions. Whether the light is transmitted, reflected, scattered or refracted, when its vibrations are aligned into one or more planes of direction, the light is said to be polarized. The Dragon polycarbonate polarized lens is designed to enhance and sharpen objects and to saturate natural color rendition. This is achieved by screening out direct light and eliminating polarized light from your surroundings, thus allowing your eyes to dilate and view objects and colors more richly and clearly without being too dark.
Rx Adaptability
All Dragon sunglasses are designed to be optically “true” and prescription adaptable. When corrective lenses are necessary, Dragon's frame designs and technology gives you a safe, lightweight corrective
alternative.
