Gatorz Karting Cup: Looking ahead to CalSpeed - Gatorz Eyewear
March 13, 2007 (Orange, Calif.) - When Gatorz Eyewar CEO Kerry Lynch dangled a fat cash prize to the points leaders of the Gatorz Eyewear Golden State Karting Cup at the season's halfway point, it added a lot of fuel to an already big fire.
The Gatorz Karting Cup is known for being the most competitive kart racing in Southern California, with its drivers needing little incentive to be pushing for the points lead early in the season.
In the Alive Design Rotax International Class, Cory Pollock holds a slim four point lead over defending champion Joey Collins, with James Kennedy another five markers behind. The three have battled for the event win at both the season opener at Moran Raceway, as well as the second round at Streets of Willow. Pollock was on top at Moran, while Collins grabbed the win at the Streets. Kennedy must be thinking that he is due.
In the Dave's Performance Rotax Masters class, it has been all about the Crow; John Crow has thrown it down in front of all the other old guys, crusing to two easy wins at Moran and Streets. Ian Thomas lays in second, but already 18 points behind, with IKF shoe Jeremy Drew a further 12 back. If Thomas, Waqar Meyer, and Erik Von Zeipel may have something for Crow, they need to show it soon.
Grange MiniMax sees a four point difference in the top two, with Dakota Dikerson four points the better on Al Simpson.
In MyChron4 Junior Rotax, Justin Coplen has won the first two races in fact, the podium for the first two races has been exactly the same, with Cameron Jocelyn second and Taylor Miinch third in both races, as well as the points standings. Last seasons champion, Race Liberante, has had a slow start to the season, but look for him to regain his form as the series visits CalSpeed and Grange - two circuits where he did quite well last season.
G-Phactory TAG Senior, ironically, features a battle between sons of kart shop owners neither of them being Phil Giebler! David Thompson enjoys a healthy lead over Ryon Beachner, although look for Adam and Andrick Zeen to jump in from time to time.
The Gatorz Karting Cup's newest class, Metal Manipulations Club Rotax, shows rookie David Ayotte at the head. John Stewart and Russ Jordan have each won one race, but missed one as well, and they are tied for second, four points behind Ayotte. Dromo One indoor karter Jober Velasco lays only three points behind Stewart and Jordan.
And as the only guy running the class, Brett Smrz has nothing to worry about in Precision Works Racing Engines DD2 so he preoccupies himself with chasing the TAG Senior guys around.
